Brandon Inge looking very busy ahead of 2012 season - MLB News
Brandon is extremely busy preparing for the upcoming Spring Training these days. The 34 year old played third base last season. Although he displayed some high quality defensive skills, quality of his game play from hitting prospective wasn’t that great.
Hitting a poor .177 average, he looked completely out of sorts.
Inge has a lot to think about before the start of 2012 regular season. He has been asked to play second base to let Miguel Cabrera perform third base duties. Although Inge does not have any Major League Baseball experience at his newly assigned position,
he is working extremely hard to learn tricks of the trade.
In addition to being a great fielder, Inge has the ability to change his game according to his needs. He has been working with Tigers’ second base coach for the last few days to learn as much as he can. To become an effective fielder at second base, the
guy has also changed his glove.
"The collisions at second base, I'm so excited for those," Inge said. "I miss those days of catching where you get a little collision. I always liked to hit in football. I like the physical aspect of stuff like that."
"I did everything when I was young: bicycle, skateboard, Wiffle ball, basketball, football," Inge added. "Anything that had wheels on, I liked. Anything with a ball, I liked. There's a chip in my head somewhere that tells me that if I'm not very good at
something or I don't know something, and I start it, that I have to get good at it.”
In some ways, the upcoming season will be a crucial one for the striker. If Inge can make the most of available opportunities at second base, he will have the opportunity to upgrade his contract at the end of the season. Inge has played second base only
at high school level so it will be interesting to see if he can become as successful second baseman at highest level of the game. Detroit Tigers, on the other hand, will be hoping to see Inge perform consistently to earn a decent on their investment.
