Brandon Inge released from his duties – MLB Update
According to a leading sports website, Detroit Tigers have released their second baseman Brandon Inge from his duties. The striker joined the club in 2001 and he played a key role in many Tigers’ victories over that period of time. In an interview, Inge
stated that although it is over for him, his heart will be in Detroit forever.
Inge batted with a decent average last season at third base and he produced some fine defensive performances. Over the years, the Tigers had relied on him in the field as an infielder/catcher but now it seems the Tigers will have to find a suitable replacement
for him.
After General Manager Dave Dombrowski signed a nine year $214 million contract with Prince Fielder earlier this year, Inge had to take on second base role within the team. According to sources, Inge did not the like the move initially but since he loved
to be a part of Tigers’, he had to accept his new assignment.
"That's all right," Inge said. "Detroit is an emotional city, a city that will back you. But the fans want their teams to do well. And when they're not, they'll let you know. There's nothing wrong with that. I respect them all, I really do. Whether they
like you or don't like you, they're still fans. There's nothing anyone can ever do that will change my opinion of Detroit and this organization. I've been very, very proud to be part of it. It's been a class act through and through."
The second baseman struggled at bat since the start of 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. In his 20 at bats, Inge managed a poor .100 hitting average. The move was made after the Tigers suffered their first series sweep of the season at the hands
of Seattle Mariners.
Without Inge, the Tigers will never be the same. He had a great bonding with the fans but with his departure the love/hate relationship will also come to an end. Inge is convinced that he still has a lot to offer in big league and it will be interesting
to see if he can revive his dying career.
