Brandon Inge should wait for his chance, Denny McLain – MLB News
A few days ago, Prince Fielder agreed to a nine year $214 million deal with Detroit Tigers. The contract is the fourth largest in Major League Baseball history. Fielder is an extremely talented player and he has the ability to single-handedly change the picture of the match.
Last season he batted with great control and aggression. Hitting a decent .299 batting average with 32 walks, 38 home runs and slugging percentage of .566, he made a name for himself. Although he had the lowest .990 fielding percentage among all first baseman, his hitting ability is what makes him the most wanted player in American League right now.
According to sources, Tigers’ Brandon Inge is not happy with the Fielder-Tigers deal. Inge performed third base duties last season. However, with the addition of Fielder in the Tigers’ team, Miguel Cabrera is more likely to play third base position this season.
Inge is very disappointed with his situation as he will have to wait for his chance now to prove his metal. Former Tigers’ pitcher Denny McLain stated in an interview that the Tigers should prefer the striker who has hit .300 and drives in 100 runs rather than someone who hardly manages to hit .190 and doesn’t get too many runs either. He further criticised Inge for his poor offensive and defensive skills.
"This is a wonderful deal," McLain added of the Fielder signing. "You can never be upset about getting a guy that drives in 100 runs and you are a backup to the best hitter in baseball. Now you've got (Fielder) and Cabrera, and it doesn't matter who you put in front or in back of them, they are going to be better hitters because of these two. I suspect Miggy won't be Brooks Robinson at third base, but neither was Brandon Inge."
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland also commented on the situation saying that Inge should wait for his chance to perform instead of blaming others. The Tigers are doing everything to win the World Series title this season and they will also offer complete support to Inge in his testing times.
