Brandon Inge training hard to revive his career – MLB Detroit Tigers News
Brandon Inge is practicing hard these days to impress his Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski. Inge is one of the most dynamic fielders in Major League Baseball right now. Although he was unable to live up to the expectations from hitting
prospective past season, he displayed some high quality defensive skills in left field.
Earlier this year, considering Inge’s poor performances, Leyland decided to replace him with Miguel Cabrera at third base. The move was criticised by many Detroit Tigers’ fans who consider Cabrera to be too heavy for third base. In an interview with a leading
sports website, Leyland stated that Inge was not a happy camper after he heard the news he might have to sit out on the bench for entire next season.
To help the striker revive his career, GM Dombrowski requested Leyland to consider Inge for second base. Inge arrived at Tigers’ Spring Training camp last week and he has been working hard with the coaching staff to improve his hitting skills. Undoubtedly,
he is one of the best fielders in the game right now. However, to cement his position on Tigers’ final roster, he will be looking to display high quality batting skills in the upcoming season.
"Like I've been gypped out on some leather But I'm getting used to it. At second base, there've been some things I didn't understand," Inge said. "They're completely opposite, like some of the position of your throws, to playing third. It takes some different
footwork, but no problem. I like second base."
"I know I can catch with that one," he further added, pointing to the glove he used while playing third last year. "I'm getting there with this one. When we take the field, we should have a little swagger. No cockiness, just some positive swagger.”
According to sources, Inge has also changed his glove for his newly assigned position. Inge believes that he will need a smaller glove to perform his defensive duties effectively at second base. It will be interesting to see if he can perform consistently
with the bat and glove in 2012 to win back his fans’ hearts.
