Brandon Inge’s ninth inning RBI helps Detroit Tigers defeat Minnesota Twins 9-7 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ third baseman, Brandon Inge was impressive with his bat as he went 2-for-5 and hit a decisive RBI single in the Tigers’ 9-7 victory against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minnesota on May 11.
The Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland was content with the performance of his team. Speaking to reporters, he said, “Don't give this one away. If it ends up 4-2, that's OK. But they never gave in. They wanted to go home 5-1 and they did.”
The first inning went in favour of the Tigers as they got a 1-0 lead from the beginning when Scott Sizemore singled on the sacrifice bunt of Austin Jackson, who went 1-for-5 with his bat. On the other side, the Twins opened their scoring account during the
second inning when Denard Span singled off the left-field to tie the game 1-all.
The Twins went ahead 2-1 in the third inning when Justin Morneau completed a single to reach first base. Then, Victor Martinez struck a one-run homer in the fourth inning to again tie the game 2-all. Brennan Boesch played a crucial part for the Tigers as
he drove a shot towards centre-field position and made three runs to for a 5-2 lead. Boesch walked two and went 1-for-3 with the bat.
The sixth inning went scoreless for both sides as Miguel Cabrera completed a two-run double but was ejected by the home plate umpire, Vic Carapazza. Cabrera said of his ejection, “He called me high and now he comes in with a low pitch. I just tried to figure
out the strike zone. I don't say nothing bad. It was a good thing. Bring in Peralta and he hit a home run!”
The Twins led off 6-5 in the seventh inning by adding four runs. Rene Rivera and Ben Revere both scored two runs jointly for their team. Jason Kubel hit his fourth homer of the season during the seventh inning against Tigers’ reliever Daniel Schlereth. The
Tigers were on top again when Jhonny Peralta struck a two-run homer in the eighth inning but the Twins’ in-fielder Matt Tolbert levelled the game by taking a single run.
In the ninth inning, Inge hit an RBI single to go-ahead of the Twins and Ramon Santiago singled off the right-centre field to give the Tigers a 9-7 lead.
The Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire was disappointed after the loss. He said, “That's just not throwing it over. Courage is throwing the ball over the plate and making them swing the bat, and hopefully we'll catch it. Sometimes you back away and you shy away,
and that's not good enough, especially at the end of the ballgame.”
Scott Baker was shaky with the ball as he gave away five runs on six hits in four innings pitched.
