Brandon Jacobs expresses interest in playing for New York Jets – NFL News
Soon after his release by New York Giants, running back, Brandon Jacobs, has reportedly expressed interest in playing for New York Jets under head coach, Rex Ryan.
Jacobs and Giants parted ways with each other after failing to agree to a new restructured contract. Now, the most feasible option for Jacobs is to join Jets.
Since both franchises represent New York, Jacobs will not have to relocate to join any other National Football League (NFL) team if Jets agree to select him.
Furthermore, he is well acquainted with the playing conditions in New York and will not need time to readjust.
After starting his NFL career with Giants in 2005, Jacobs was released after playing seven seasons for the team.
His performance has been severely affected by some injuries of late, but Jacobs thinks that he is fit enough to play football for around three more years.
He said:
"I got about three good ones left in me, no question ... guaranteed three more years left in me."
When asked about playing for Jets, he said:
"I would love to do that (play for the Jets). It would be an opportunity for me to not have to relocate. I got to do what's best for my family. Whichever team it is, I think is going to be a lucky team. I got a lot left in me, got a lot to offer."
As Jacobs expresses his desire, his past behaviour might become a major obstacle in fulfilling his interests.
During the regular season game of the recently concluded season, Jacobs abused Jets’ head coach, Rex Ryan in a humiliating way.
Heading to a must-win game, Giants and Jets were involved in trash talking with both sides claiming that they were the best New York team.
Ryan asserted that Jets would beat Giants, but the latter won the game after which Jacobs said to Ryan: "It's time to shut up, fat boy!”
Now when Jacobs is contemplating about his next destination, he thinks that he can go along with Ryan.
He said:
“That whole thing with Rex Ryan -- me and Rex are alike, that's what it is. We definitely could get along, no question about it.”
Meanwhile, there is no word from Jets or Ryan regarding this development and it is yet to be known what they are feeling about hiring Jacobs.
