Brandon Jacobs positive about returning to New York Giants for the next year – NFL News
New York Giants’ running back, Brandon Jacobs, has once again reiterated that he wants to be with the franchise in the next season saying he has got a ‘feeling’ that the Super Bowl XLVI champions want him back.
In a radio interview on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, Jacobs, http://www.senore.com/Brandon-Jacobs-wants-to-retire-as-a-Giant,-but-the-player-is-keeping-his-options-open-NFL-News-a129229, informed that he had spoken to his agent regarding his current contract with the team.
He was hopeful that the management would call him back for the next season.
Last year, Jacobs restructured his contract to stay with Giants and accepted a salary cut. He is willing to do it again, but is not up for accepting a major cut.
Giants owe Jacobs a salary of $4.4 million for the next year and a roster bonus of $500,000 next month.
None of the amount is guaranteed and if the management decides to release the player, Giants will not be bound to pay the money.
While an official version from Giants’ management is yet to come in this matter, Jacobs has said that he is expecting a return call.
He said:
“Well, I have spoken to my agent and I do expect to be fully back with the New York Giants next season.”
Jacobs added:
“These guys in the front office, they’ve been doing this for years.  They know what they’ve got to do.  I want to be back.  But they actually know what has to be done if they want me back.”
Jacobs started his professional National Football League (NFL) career with Giants in 2005.
In the last season, he started six games while playing 14 in the regular season where he had 152 carries for 571 yards and seven touchdowns with a low average of 3.8 yards per carry.
In the playoffs, he rushed for 164 yards on 37 attempts with an average of 4.4 yards per carry. He also scored a touchdown.
The records are not as impressive as they should be and that is what forced many pundits to predict that Giants might not restructure the deal and could opt for releasing the player.
“If they don’t want me back then that’s another story in itself, then nothing has to be done.  But I got a feeling that they do,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs had also hinted at joining New York Jets if he did not come to terms with Giants.
Jets have also not spoken anything about this matter, but if the player becomes a free agent, he will certainly have more options.
