Brandon Jacobs speaks on San Francisco 49ers loss against New York Giants in NFC Championship game
San Francisco 49ers astonished everyone in the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season as they ended a long drought to enter the playoffs after winning the National Football Conference (NFC) West division with 13 victories.
They won their divisional round game against New Orleans Saints and qualified for the NFC Championship game. They faced the New York Giants, who eventually ended their brilliant run and qualified for the Super Bowl and later won it.
Running back Brandon Jacobs, who was with Giants last season, was also part of the Giants’ squad in the championship game. Jacobs has now joined the 49ers and during one of the practice sessions, he was reportedly asked by the 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh
about the NFC Champions game.
According to Matthew Barrows of The Sacramento Bee, Harbaugh discussed a fumble call on Jacobs’ former teammate Ahmad Bradshaw. Jacobs was surprisingly honest in his response. He told Harbaugh:
“I don't feel bad for you, coach. That's how I leave it, and I'll go on with practice."
Jacobs has won two Super Bowl rings with the Giants and wants to win his third ring with the 49ers, who have even stronger side ready for the 2012 season.
Jacobs’ role, however, is not determined yet as the 49ers already have some quality rushers. Jacobs thinks that his role will change with the team plan. The running back said:
"My role can change according to the game plan. I do know one part of my role will be downhill, in-between-the-tackles, may-the-man-who-wants-it-more-win. That's pretty much going to be my role, actually, no matter what the game plan is.”
Meanwhile, 49ers leading rusher Frank Gore recently spoke with great emotion about the NFC Championship loss against the Giants. Jacobs was also present in the team meeting room and he said of Gore’s remarks:
"You could hear it in his voice. The guy was angry. And I would have been angry, as well. No question about it."
Jacobs is not the only Giant who has arrived in San Francisco this offseason. Wide receiver Mario Manningham, whose catch contributed to the game-winning drive in the Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots, has also joined the 49ers.
