Brandon Jennings, Aaron Brooks: NBA Point Guards who can succeed Derek Fisher at Los Angeles Lakers
(Part-2)
Brandon Jennings of Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee Bucks’ dynamic point guard Brandon Jennings, despite of a injury riddled last season, has the potential to become an outstanding player very soon. While many young college players take their time to get used to the pros of NBA, Jennings’ story is completely different.
Brandon, who was drafted as the tenth overall pick in 2009 by the Milwaukee Bucks, showcased the extent of his abilities right from the very game of his career. Playing against the Philadelphia 76ers, he was just shy from finishing with a triple-double at 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists.
By having Jennings on the roster in place of Derek Fisher, the Los Angeles Lakers will acquire a much needed agility boost at the point guard position. On top of that, it will give Kobe some more option on the offensive end. In the later part of the post season, Pau Gasol hit a low and that made a big impact on the Lakers’ offensive resource fullness. With Jennings, that kink can be removed a bit and that will also ease the pressure on Pau. Jennings is a decent parameter shooter and he also recently expressed his desire to become an All-Star. If the third year guard can land at the Lakers, he will have more than a chance to achieve that.
Brandon is quite useful on the defensive end as well. His average of 15.8 points, 5.3 assists, 3.6 boards and 1.4 steals in the two seasons is an evidence of Jennings being an all-round performer. The 21 years old Jennings is still raw and if he can under the guidance of the Lakers veterans, we might get a new star in the years to come.
Aaron Brooks of Phoenix Suns
Phoenix Suns 26 year old guard Aaron Brooks seems like an ideal fit for the Los Angeles Lakers Brooks has experience and is still quite young to play basket for a longer period.
The Houston Rockets acquired Aaron during the 2007 NBA Draft as the 26th pick overall pick. After a slow start to his NBA career, Brooks transformed himself into a prolific scorer and helped the Rockets clinch the play-off berth two times successively in 2008 and 2009. During the 2009-2010 season, Brooks posted the best performance of his career with an average of 19.6 point and 5.6 assists per game.
This year in February, Aaron was traded to the Phoenix Suns where his playing minutes were decreased and that trimmed down his scoring average as well. Nevertheless, he is a prolific perimeter shooter and even at 6ft 1in, he can give scares to defences all around the league. Brooks is also dynamic from the three-point range and carries a shooting percentage of more than 36 percent from beyond the arc.
Considering the unexplored potential and the skill set of Brooks, who was named NBA Most Improved Player in 2010, the player can be a big catch. And he doesn’t have a big price tag attached to him as well.
