Brandon Jennings says Milwaukee Bucks can now compete with the best in the East – NBA News
The Milwaukee Bucks who racked up a decent record (46-36) in the 2009-10 regular-season and emerged as one of the teams to look out for. However, Scott Skiles’ team failed to improve upon their performance last season, and put
up 35-47 record, also failing to qualify for the playoffs.
One of the major reasons behind their previous unsuccessful season run was deficiency of superstars in their line-up. It was because of this very reason the Bucks are not highly rated, as the Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat and Boston
Celtics in the same conference.
The Bulls have stars like Carlos Boozer, Luol Deng and Most Valuable Player of the previous season Derrick Rose, who led Chicago to several victories almost single handedly. Heat on the other hand, hold the star trio of LeBron
James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, who led the franchise all the way to the National Basketball Association Finals.
Similarly, the C’s have the services of Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett and that enables them to make it into the post season year after year.
In comparison to these elite teams, the Bucks have only one known player amongst them and that is centre Andrew Bogut. However, their upcoming point guard Brandon Jennings believes that after June 23 NBA Draft night things have
changed and now the Bucks have the depth and the talent to defeat any top team in their conference. The major reason for this proclamation has been the addition of small forward Stephen Jackson to their roster.
Stressing that point in an interview, he said “The thing about the NBA is the league gets better and better every year. It’s never going to be the same, so I think with Stephen Jackson and a healthy Andrew Bogut and Drew Gooden,
I think we’ll be talented enough to play with any of the top teams in the East, hands down.”
On this move Jennings said, “The first day Stephen Jackson walked into the facility, I knew right then and there it was going to be a different year. And it’s going to be a year that I think we’re going to be successful."
Besides the shortage of star power, the Bucks’ key players also faced some injury issues that put them on the side lines and Milwaukee that achieved the fifth spot in the 2009-10 standings, failed to book a berth in the playoffs
this season and ended up on the ninth place in the eastern table.
This poor performance forced the management to bring some changes. They brought Beno Udrih back from the Sacramento Kings and the franchise also landed shooting guard Stephen Jackson from the Charlotte Bobcats.
In exchange for these two players in the three-team draft day trade, the Bucks sent John Salmons to the Kings and Corey Maggette to the Bobcats.
