Brandon League comments on nail biting conclusion to Seattle’s fixture with Minnesota
The Seattle Mariners kicked off their series at Target Field in Minneapolis beating the Minnesota Twins 5-4 on Tuesday, September 20.
The club won their first game in style as they quelled the home team with some dominating play. The action however kept on pouring in till the very last inning. Brandon League was in the middle of it as he worked himself out of bases loaded jam.
League did not see much of a chance for a relief in the ninth inning as the Twins pressurised him to the very maximum. The 28-year-old had just one inning on the mound and it was the most exciting one in the game. The hurler was smashed for a single by Rene
Tosoni. Ben Revere then moved on to the mound with a line drive to the centre-field.
With the first two bases loaded Trevor Plouffe tried to work the bases with a sacrifice bunt to League. The pitcher however committed a throwing error, putting the Twins in the scoring opportunity. However things changed drastically.
League mustered up all the strength to strike-out Michael Cuddyer. Chris Parmelee then grounded out to first. The Mariners read the play well and took out Tosoni on home plate. The near save left League with one more man and he took care of him easily as
Danny Valencia ground out to third.
"I don't know if you can get out of more of a jam than that, bases loaded with no out and up by one," League said. "It doesn't get any more tight than that."
The star player talked about the Mariners who pulled their rookies into order for the win. Alex Liddi had smashed a two run homer to equalise for the Mariners, earlier.
"It's always fun to see guys develop and get thrown into tough situations and succeed," League said. "Especially when we've got a whole bunch of young guys on this team, just watching them succeed and make adjustments. It's promising."
League’s nail biting save means the player moved to 35 saves this season. With a few games left on the horizon, the closer will be hoping to get to 40.
