Brandon McCarthy does well against Texas Rangers but loses, admits that Texans are strong
Brandon McCarthy pitched strong for the Oakland Athletics as they lost to the Texas Rangers 4-13 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Friday, September 9.
The ace hurler faced off against the American League West leaders and was looking to break a streak of eight consecutive team losses to the Texans. The bid however did not go well as the A’s lost the game.
Much of the loss was attributed to errors on the Oakland half of the turn. McCarthy ended up losing his eight game of the season in six innings of play. He conceded four runs off five hits, while striking-out the Texas’ offence five times. The performance
was highly graded as the hurler went up against one of the toughest teams in the American League. His ERA took a hit though, as it climbed to 3.39.
McCarthy however had a lot to say after the game. He simply explained why the Texans did so well against his club.
"They're better than us," said McCarthy. "There's no sidestepping it. They hit really well, they get good at-bats, they pitch well, they do a lot of things well. What they're doing is what we need to aspire to get up to."
The Oakland club is 4-10 against the Rangers, this season and this shows the superiority of the leaders over the third place Oakland Athletics.
"They hit really well, they get good at-bats, they pitch well, they do a lot of things well, and what they're doing is what we need to aspire to get up to," said McCarthy. "It's not a fluke. They're just a really good team that seems to have good performances
against us."
McCarthy’s role ended in the game after the sixth inning when the club was trailing the Texans, 2-4. The Oakland bullpen made matters worse as nine more runs were conceded in just three innings. The pitcher has a valid point in mentioning the Rangers’ supremacy
in the League. It may be time for Oakland to reshuffle or reignite their bullpen.
