Brandon Morrow shines as Toronto Blue Jays shutout Boston Red Sox 5-0 – MLB Update
Toronto Blue Jays showed great patience as they shut-out the Boston Red Sox 5-0 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario in the finale of their three match series.
The Red Sox had the better of their opponents in the first two games of the series and they were looking to complete an emphatic road series sweep against the American League East rivals. Credit should be given to the Manager Bobby Valentine for keeping
his players focused despite the fact the Red Sox are out of the playoff race.
Blue Jays, on the other hand, will be extremely happy with their performance in the finale as they managed to avoid an embarrassing series sweep. The pitching rotation in particular played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash, not allowing the
Red Sox to score any run.
Starting pitcher Brandon Morrow pitched with great control and accuracy as he gave up just four hits in six sharp innings to create all sorts of problems for the Red Sox’s batting line-up.
Relief pitchers Brett Cecil, Brandon Lyon, Darren Oliver and Casey Janssen combined to pitch three scoreless innings to help Toronto complete a deserving victory.
"Not even in my wildest dreams was I going to think that you can bring the name of Babe Ruth next to mine," Vizquel said.
"I'd be crazy not to," Farrell said. "For him to tie if possible in New York will be very fitting."
"I don't know if he threw a bad pitch except for maybe the curveball to Vizquel," Valentine said of Jon Lester. "The whole game he was in and out, doing a heck of a job."
"As we've seen many times before, when Rajai gets on the bases he can make a lot of things happen," Farrell said.
Omar Vizquel singled to shallow centre in the seventh inning to break the deadlock and put Blue Jays on the board. Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria homered to left and Cody Rasmus singled to left in the eighth to extend the lead to 4-0. Moises Sierra singled
to shallow centre to end the game on a positive note for the Blue Jays.
