Brandon Phillips leaves game against Milwaukee Brewers after head injury – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds lost the last game of three-match series to the Milwaukee Brewers by 8-4 on Wednesday, June 27. Along with the defeat came an incident that could prove dangerous for the team’s second baseman Brandon Phillips.
Phillips had to leave the game for precautionary reason when he was hit in the head by Brewers’ Aramis Ramirez in the top of the third inning. This happened while Phillips unsuccessfully tried to steal a base and got recorded out after he was hit in the temple by Ramirez’s arm.
Phillips described the feeling he had after the incident, saying he felt kind of light. "I just felt kind of light after that, and I started seeing stars and stuff," Phillips said. "I started feeling like I was off balance a little bit."
With that transpiring at a crucial stage of the game, Dusty Baker – the team manager, went to inquire how the second baseman felt. The ensuing conversation made it clear that Phillips was unable to continue the game.
"He just said he was feeling dizzy," Baker said. "Nowadays, when a guy says he's feeling dizzy, you have to take every precaution and get him out of there. That's what we did."
Phillips’ getting hit in the temple did not actually come on the right time. He was performing well in the game with 1-for-2. While the team failed to sweep the three-game series, the team management and fans hope he will be back soon.
On the other hand, Phillips himself dropped a hint that he was feeling alright. "I think I'm all right," Phillips said. "I feel like I'm not all the way there right now. I still feel like I'm kind of off, but I think I'll be all right.”
The team has all the more reason to be concerned about the health and fitness of the second baseman. Phillips had an enviable record of .316 in June alone with no less than five home-runs to his credit and 21 RBIs.
Although Phillips did say he felt alright, it remains to be seen if and when he comes back to join the team.
