Brandon Rios: I am ready to face Abril – Boxing News
Brandon ‘Bam Bam’ Rios and Richard ‘El Tigre’ Abril, the current WBA interim lightweight champion, were present at a press conference yesterday in Los Angeles at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Both the fighters are scheduled to fight for the WBA lightweight
title on Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
During the conference, Abril was the first one between the two to speak. He started with explaining the Miami incident, “I want to thank Top Rank for the opportunity to be in this fight. I want to say that what happened in Miami was a result of me being
disrespected. I don’t understand English that well but when someone says f–k to me in my face, that’s disrespectful.”
Then, Rios started his part saying, “I am ready. I feel great all said in done April 14 I am going to get my title back and be the lightweight champion once again. Who is Richard Abril?’ everyone asked. Nobody knew who he was and they still won’t know who
he is because April 14 I am getting my title back and moving on to bigger and better things.”
Rios then spoke about the Miami incident as well saying that he will find out whatever happened and he will knock Abril’s a*s.
On the other hand, President of Top Ran Todd duBoef said that there will not be anything more regarding the Miami incident.
Talking about his fighting style, Abril added that he has a technical style and he likes using his distance or whatever Brandon has to offer. He then said that this is a great opportunity for him and he will make sure that he utilizes it to the utmost and
give his best. He then said that Rios is thinking he will be the champion again but he (Abril) will break his Rios’ dream and take away the title.
He finally added that he feels ready to go for it and he knows he will reign during the fight. He said Abril should not be overconfident or else he will suffer more pain during the fight.
