Brandon Rios hopes to take on Manny Pacquiao as his next opponent – Boxing news
The undefeated Mexican-American professional boxer, Brandon Lee Rios declared that he wants to go against the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer Manny Pacquiao for his next bout.
After claiming a thrilling victory against Urbano Antillon, Brandon ‘Bam Bam’ Rios expressed the hope on Saturday.
The Lightweight and Light Welterweight contender Rios won a third-round technical knockout decision against Antillon at the Home Depot Centre in Carson California.
Rios made the second successful defence of his World Boxing Association World Lightweight title which he claimed winning a technical knockout decision against Miguel Acosta in February 26, 2011.
It is expected that the current WBA World Lightweight Champion Rios can go against Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana because he is trying to get at 140 lbs to take on the best welterweights but he is not confirmed to go against Pacman.
The 25-year-old Orthodox stance Rios declared, “Any champion is looking for a fight, I'm here.”
However, there are bright chances of a Pacquiao vs. Rios bout to be finalised because both the fighters are now under the control of Top Rank.
Top Rank chief Bob Arum has already expressed hope to bring Pacquiao and Rios together.
Arum said, “In a year or two, I would put him in with Manny Pacquiao, I think he's a guy that can match Manny’s speed and power. The bout between the Pacquiao and Rios will be competitive one because Rios has the heart and the strength to match fighting
pride of Philippines.”
The 25-year-old Rios said, “If Bob Arum thinks I can fight Pacquiao, well, he knows the business better than anybody. He knows what he's talking about, and I’ll be ready.”
Rios will be returning to the ring after winning 10 consecutive bouts in his professional boxing career.
Pacquiao is scheduled to fight Juan Manuel Marquez in a 12-round bout for the WBO Welterweight World title in November 2011 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, United States.
