Brandon Roy apologizes for Game 2 comments; makes up in Game 3: NBA news
Brandon Roy apologized for the comments he made after being allotted less playing time in Portland Trail Blazers’ Game 2 loss to the Dallas Mavericks. Regretting having said that he could have been treated a little better and accepting the fact that he was
literally drawn to tears after being given less playing time in Tuesday’s game, the player officially apologized for the statement he passed earlier on.
On Thursday, the Blazers guard expressed grief about his comments and said that they were out of frustration. The player had remarked on his short playtime when he told a newspaper that, “I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little hurt or disappointed. I just
always thought I would be treated a little better. That was a little disappointing for me.”
The player had been struggling lately in the regular season and had arthroscopic surgery that took place on his knees in mid of January this year. Ever since the surgery, the three times NBA All-Star has been struggling to find his old place in the team.
The player was confined to the bench and was replaced by Wesley Matthews as the team’s shooting guard.
The player started 23 games and made an average of 12.2 points in 47 games this season. Since being relegated to the bench, his playoff performance until game 2 have not been impressive. The player could only record two points in 34 minutes of action.
Definitely troubled after having said words that were dressed in depression, the player made a clear apology in a statement he gave in a shoot-around before Thursday’s game. Feeling sorry for his comments, the 26-year-old was quoted as saying, “It was something
that maybe shouldn’t have been said. I’ll apologize to our fans if I offended anybody, but it was just me being disappointed in losing games, and I just wanted to be out there to help.”
Coach Nate McMillan and team-mates kept their stance cool and said that they understood what Roy was going through and sympathised with the All-Star.
Roy however overcame his frustration and got over his nerves in an action packed game, leading to Portland’s 97-92 win over the third seeded Dallas Mavericks. The player came off the bench for 23 plus minutes and ignited the floor with 16 points and four
assists. He recorded a tenacious 6-of-10 shooting off the field to go along with a three-pointer and three free throws in the win. His devotees stood up to cheer him on and he was welcomed with a standing ovation by the audience. That really got the player
going and boosted his spirits. McMillan reflected on Roy’s game afterwards and what he said expressed sheer appreciation of the Seattle born superstar, "This is a guy we know is capable of producing, and tonight he did that.”
No one could have stopped Roy as he himself expressed that he was in a good mood that night. His game was highlighted with six shots in a row that made everyone forget his previous comments and concentrate on what was happening in front of their eyes.
