Brandon Roy could sit out against Memphis Grizzlies
All-star guard Brandon Roy could sit out of his ailing knee on Tuesday 16 November when the Portland Trail Blazers face the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum.
Roy, whose minutes were limited in the Blazers’ last three games, missed their practice on Monday 15 November, and according to him, he’ll evaluate his knee, but he will likely skip their game against Memphis
and return on Thursday 18 November against the Denver Nuggets.
“I'm looking at tomorrow, but Thursday is more realistic,” said Roy after the team's practice on Monda 15 November. “I'm going to wake up and give it a try tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. I have to be smart
about it.”
The 26-year-old guard also added that the condition of his knee has improved since Saturday 13 November, when he went out in their game against the New Orleans Hornets. However, Roy said that he is still
bothered by the pain and swelling, but he couldn’t do anything about it since the doctors advised him to rest, and he will not undergo any knee surgery.
“He said a lot of what I'm feeling is that maybe the bones are a little agitated right now because they hit,” said Roy about the recommendation of team doctor Don Roberts. “So he said it's kind of going to
be based on how I feel when I can start playing again. I'm going to be smart about it. As long as I still feel that little bit of pain or discomfort on the outside of the knee, then I won't play.”
Without Roy against the Grizzlies, head coach Nate McMillan is planning to start either Wesley Matthews or Rudy Fernandez, but Matthews, who is averaging 9.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game this season,
will likely get the starting shooting guard spot.
“I'm going to think about that,” McMillan said. “We could look at Wes. We need some fire on the defensive end of the floor.”
The Blazers dropped their last two games, losing against the Oklahoma City Thunder, 110-108, on 12 November, followed by a humbling 107-87 defeat against the Hornets on 13 November.
