Brandon Roy says his knees are fully healed and recovered as he makes NBA return – NBA News
Brandon Roy knows that he is about to start the most important season of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The former All Star who played for the Portland Trail Blazers and took the NBA by storm, suffered from a series of injuries that took away his game and forced him to retire at the end of the 2010-2011 season. However, after sitting out one season and getting the orthokine procedure done that Kobe Bryant underwent for his knees as well, Roy decided to give his NBA career another shot, knowing that it might be his last. Nobody can deny the talent and skills that Roy possesses and exhibited in his first stint in the NBA. If he can play to that level after his return, the Wolves just landed a lottery. However, the question still remains whether Roy is in good physical shape to endure the vigorous schedule of an NBA season, and whether his knees will be able to support him.
Roy is confident that his health is back to normal, and says that he would not have decided to return to the league had he not been confident in his knees and his overall health. Roy was talking to Paul Allen on KFAN in Minneapolis when he made the comments.
“The knees have been great. We went at it pretty hard the last five days, been going for about three hours. I think a big question in the back of my mind was, ‘How will the knees hold up with some grueling practices?’ And after coming out of all those practices, I feel just as good as I did going in,” said Roy.
“My first mindset is to get to that basket and draw a foul or draw some kind of a response where we create a shot for our team. If I wasn’t able to get to the basket and have confidence in doing that, then I wouldn’t have tried to make this comeback,” added Roy.
Roy played his first game since his return to the NBA on Wednesday night, a preseason fixture against the Indiana Pacers. He put up a great effort for the night, finishing with 13 points and 4 rebounds while going 5 of 9 from the field. If he is able to consistently score for the Wolves and provide them the interior penetration that this team needs, the Wolves will be a very interesting team to watch next season, and a very difficult one to beat.
