Brandon Roy to have a limited playing time
Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy said that he will have a limited playing time in their next few games because his ailing left knee is currently slowing him down.
According to the 26-year-old guard, he is experiencing swelling and pain on his left knee that was operated on in August 2008, and he is concerned about what is going on inside the knee,
after having it drained twice this season.
Fearing that it might get more serious, the former Washington stand-out reportedly asked head coach Nate McMillan to limit his minutes to calm the swelling, which will allow him to be in
his usual explosive state.
“Does it concern me? Yeah,” said Roy when asked about his knee. “I would love to play more minutes and have a much better body, but it's just not the case, so I have to try and make the most
of what it is. This is what it is, and now you have to make the most of it.”
The fifth-year guard also admitted that his left knee has been affecting his performance in his five-year stint in the NBA, and it was obvious in their recent games where he does not seem
to have the explosive first step that he is known for. Although he is playing hurt, Roy is still averaging an impressive 19.2 points in their first nine games this season, but he is not as aggressive as he was before.
In their win against Detroit Pistons on Tuesday 9 November, the all-star shooting guard finished with 11 points in 21 minutes, but only attempted seven shots, which is way below his usual
average.
General manager Rich Cho, on the other hand, said that he fully understood Roy’s request and they are actually planning to take him to Los Angeles, along with injured centre Greg Oden and
Elliot Williams, who will undergo a knee operation.
