Brandon Roy to have yet another knee surgery – NBA Report
At the age of 28, Brandon Roy is in his fifth professional year in NBA, but if the recent reports are to believed, the three time All-Star is on the verge of getting a seventh procedure done on his knees.
According to Jason Quick at the Oregonian, the shooting guard, who has so far averaged 5.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in the five games he has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and has missed the last four games due to knee soreness, will have another procedure on his knee this week.
This means that the player would not be able to return and play in the building, from where it all started for him. The Wolves are scheduled to play the Trail Blazers on Friday;
“Minnesota guard Brandon Roy scheduled for right knee surgery; won't make Rose Garden appearance Friday” Jason tweeted recently;
The surgery is being branded as a minor arthroscopy, but given the history of knee problems that the guard has had in his short career, this could well be game over for him. And, judging by the tone of his response, it seems that he is resigned to the fact;
“I wouldn’t be disappointed either way,’’ Roy said. “If it ends in three weeks, it ends. It’s over. I’m totally satisfied with what I’ve done. I know the sacrifice and the effort that I put into coming back. It took a lot of discipline to get to where I am, that’s all I care about: how hard I’ve worked.’’
The rookie of the year in the 2006-07 season, Roy was once the heartthrob at Portland. He was one the main people, who helped the franchise develop a winning tradition. But it all ended rather quickly for him following series of knee injuries. Eventually there came a time, when the guard himself claimed that there was no cartilage left in his knees, and the Trail Blazers eventually amnestied him last year.
After a year of various procedures and treatments on his knees however, Roy decided to make a comeback and found a taker in the Wolves. The guard never showed signs of his old self though, and failed to make even a single three in the games he played.
The surgery at this point puts his career in serious jeopardy and adds further pressure on an already depleted Wolves’ roster.
