Brandon Roy’s knee still hurting, but no surgery needed

Portland Trail Blazers shooting guard Brandon Roy is still bothered by his ailing knee, but the good news is that he will not need to undergo any surgery.

Roy, who went out in their game against the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday 13 November, said that the Blazers’ doctor Don Roberts informed him that his knee is swelling up regularly because
there is no cartilage in it that can absorb the tension while he is playing hard.

“The problem is bone-on-bone there,” said Roy, who is averaging 18.1 points per game this season. “Dr. Roberts calls it 'arthritic knee.' It's just something I'm going to have to deal with
for the rest of my career.”

Right after their game against the Hornets, Roy spoke to reporters and clarified that he went out of the game also because of the injury, and when asked if he or his team are planning to
have an MRI on his knee, Roy declined to give a definite answer.

“I’m not going to speculate,” Roy said. “I’m just going to take it day-by-day and see how it feels. I felt that sharp pain, and it was not going away, so I felt it was best I go out of the
game. The biggest thing for me right now is not to think too far ahead.”

Roy’s knee has already been drained twice this season, and Blazers head coach Nate McMillan, whose team have been strucked by different injuries, is hoping that Roy’s condition is not serious
that it will cause him to miss a lot of games.

“With everything that has been going on the last week or so, in talking about his knee, we are hoping that it’s nothing,” McMillan said. “Maybe a bump, or a knee-on-knee, and hope that he
can get back. But you have to wonder what is going on in there.”

Despite missing key players like centres Greg Oden and Joel Przybilla, the Blazers manage to won six of their first 11 games this season.
