Brandon Stone in a stronger position at the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship - golf news
Brandon Stone is in the final round of the Sanlam South African Amateur Championship 2012, and will be facing the Scottish Brian Soutar.
Stone, the South African amateur player, performed well throughout the event and achieved all the possible chances of reaching the top of the leaderboard.
This tournament is staged by the South African Golf Association and he displayed amazing performances at the Mowbray Golf Course. The final is scheduled on March 2, 2012.
“I played against Brian in the United Kingdom last year and he is a tenacious and determined player,” Stone said.
He added, “If he is in the final, it means he is running a hot streak. I’m in good form, too, so it’s guaranteed to be a gripping final. It’s a good thing I had all those extra holes this week to warm me up”.
The long journey is about to end. Stone waited l long time to face Souter for such an amazing title. Now there is only one match between him and the glory.
He qualified for the finals by defeating Michael Loppnow in the quarters and Jamie Clare in the semis. His driving distance, accuracy and the impressive swing helped him to be in the finals.
Loppnow is the number one golfer in the Western Province. Defeating him was not so easy, but Stone wonderfully recorded a win against him.
“Michael was an incredibly tough opponent,” Stone, the Gauteng North native, said. “All day our shots were never six to eight feet apart and we matched each other hole for hole”.
Similarly, he continued his leading scores in the semis and defeated Clare with a one-point lead.
He is in his full form now and also has ample chances to be a new star in the tournament for the first time in his career.
Now, for the final round, Stone will face the South African topper Brian Soutar. Like the others, he is again not an easy rival.
Soutar will be giving a tough time on the course and Stone has to be more impressive on Friday.
Stone can only win, if he delivers his best against Souter. The final is scheduled on Friday, March 2, 2012 and both the players are excited and confident.
