Brandon Stone will face Brian Soutar in the final of South African Amateur Championship
Brandon Stone is performing well this year, making an attempt to be at the top by defeating Brian Soutar in the final of the South African Amateur Championship.
He is just a match away from the title and hit amazing strokes in the past rounds. He is happy and confident enough to lead the scores in upcoming final round as well.
The Gauteng North native defeated Western Province number one golfer, Michael Loppnow, in the quarter finals and qualified for the semi.
“Michael was an incredibly tough opponent,” Stone said. “All day our shots were never six to eight feet apart and we matched each other hole for hole”.
Stone continued his scoring and defeated Jamie Clare in the semi finals and made himself eligible for the finals.
He is in his full form now and has ample chances to become the new star of the tournament for the first time in his career.
His performance was tremendous throughout the event staged by the South African Golf Association (SAGA). He can record a win by delivering the best, as he did in the previous rounds.
Stone will have to face Brian Soutar in the final round, on Friday. A tough battle ground is set on Mowbray Golf Course, Cape Town in South Africa.
Soutar also made impressive strokes and qualified for the finals by defeating Louis Taylor in the quarters and Shaun Smith in the semi finals.
Souter is not an easy target, as he cannot be defeated easily. Stone has to plan some more impressive scoring techniques, with which, he can claim the title of the South African Amateur Championship.
“I played against Brian in the United Kingdom last year and he is a tenacious and determined player,” Stone said.
He added, “If he is in the final, it means he is running a hot streak. I’m in good form, too, so it’s guaranteed to be a gripping final. It’s a good thing I had all those extra holes this week to warm me up”.
“And then we get to do it all over again on Friday,” said Stone. “Twice”.
The final is scheduled on Friday, March 2, 2012 and both the players are excited and confident to deliver their best and to compete impressively for the title.
