Brandon Vera: I perform extremely well when being dubbed as an underdog – UFC News
Brandon Vera, the former World Extreme Cagefighting champion, in a recent interview bashed all those critics who regarded him as an underdog. He commented that he is happy for being treated as the brawler with least odds adding that he has always performed
well in such scenario.
Vera is scheduled to take on Mauricio Rua, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, in a non-title bout which will co-headline ‘UFC on FX: Shogun vs. Vera’ pay-per-view. The event will be televised live on August 4, 2012 and the octagon for the showdown
will be set up at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, United States.
The fight card will be co-headlined by another non-title bout between Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader. Vera is a surging young American brawler who has built himself quite an intimidating resume.
The 34-year-old will enter the octagon with odds seriously against him. Also known as ‘The Truth’, Brandon has been in a total 18 mixed martial art bouts and emerged victorious in 12.
The San Diego proud is a knockout specialist and has pinned seven of his opponents by knockout, one by submission and four by decision. Brandon recently made a comeback on the win streak by collecting an impressive unanimous decision win over Eliot Marshal.
Before that the Californian was going through a pretty bad phase of his career as he received two consecutive losses from Randy Couture and Jon Jones and a no contest decision against Thiago silva.
A bird’s eye view of his resume clearly shows that there is not enough facets that might motivate the odd-makers to place their bets on Vera’s win. It is this reason why in a recent media interaction, Brandon squashed all his naysayers and remarked that
he will shock the whole world by nailing Shogun.
Brandon stated, “Go ahead and bet the house on [Shogun]. You don’t have to believe me. Just watch, August 4th, check it out and then let me know what you think afterwards.... It’s Shogun. I’m supposed to be the underdog. I’m supposed to get my a*s whooped.
That’s what’s supposed to be happening, but it’s not gonna go down like that come August 4th Ariel. It’s not.”
While sharing his little secret Brandon commented that the apropos scenario in which he performs well is the current one that is when everybody is booing at you and considering you a newbie who will just enter the octagon to get squashed.
Vera stated, “Every time someone counts me out, that’s when I perform my best so I think that’s why I’m so hyped too.” Rua, 30, is a Brazilian knockout specialist and no matter what Vera says, there is only a slight chance of him grabbing a win over the
former champion.
Rua has been in a total 26 mixed martial art bouts and has collected 17 of his 20 wins by knockout.
