Brandon Vera: I still believe clash with Mauricio Rua is a bonus - UFC News
Brandon Vera, the one-time World Extreme Cagefighting heavyweight tourney winner, has said that he still thinks the engagement with Rua is a bonus, adding that Dana did the right thing by listening to the fans as UFC is a fan-based sport.
Vera does not seem to be diffident by the way things have gone in the past one or two days. Brandon was flying high when his bout with Mauricio Rua was proclaimed as a title-eliminator one with the winner becoming the number one contender for a shot at UFC’s
light heavyweight title.
The news came as a shock to the UFC critics, fans and geeks who vehemently bashed the decision with a bag full of genuine arguments. As a result of the continuous outpouring of dissident remarks by the UFC universe, Dana White, UFC President, amended his
decision by including two more men in the fight for the number one contender spot.
The other two men announced were Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader who were already scheduled to take on each other on the under card of the Vera-Rua fight card. White enhanced manifold the charm of the unique situation by further announcing that the one who
wants a title shot must not only win in fact should also prove and do something more in order to convince the critics and fans that he is the true title contender.
Brandon, on the other hand, who is being dubbed as the least possible winner of the so-called four-man title eliminator extravaganza, is not getting tense at all with the recent developments.
Vera sternly held up to his prior opinion and stated, “It was cool that Dana announced it yesterday. It was kinda just like a bonus. And today my opinion of it hasn’t changed. It’s still a bonus. I need to concentrate on beating Shogun. Not just winning
but beating Shogun. I just need to go out and perform the best that I can.”
Also known as ‘The Truth’, Vera further added that UFC is a sport heavily based on fans like and dislike, adding that Dana knows it very well the reason why he altered his decision and made it more interesting.
The Californian stated, “This is a fan-based sport, man. The fans want to start yelling, whooping, hollering, Dana is going to listen. They listen to the fans’ opinion and the fans have spoken. Dana White added two other guys, and that’s it.”
Vera, if really thinks the clash with Rua is a golden opportunity, should capitalise it as he is already on the verge of destroying his career. Brandon, unfortunately, had been unable to perform well since his loss to Tim Sylvia. Just four wins in last 10
bouts is something that can easily irk Dana and provoke him to take stern measures.
