Brandon Vera: My target is to beat Mauricio Rua not just defeat him – UFC News
Brandon Vera, Alliance MMA’s proud, is happy to be a part of a title contention scenario. The American mixed martial artists wants to focus on dominating Mauricio Rua in the ring.
Vera explicitly aired his ambitions, stating, “In my mind, I need to beat Shogun, anyway. I don't want to win – I want to beat Shogun. I need to be able to beat him for me. As long as I do that, as long as I stick to what I want to be doing, everything else
will fit right in.”
Brandon has undoubtedly being given a golden opportunity of his career, a chance that came out of the blue just to aid the former UFC star to make a comeback in the top division.
Also known as ‘The Truth’, Vera seems to understand the significance of this bout with the title eliminator stipulation, at least this is what he says every now and then.
Brandon needs to prove he still is a fighter the UFC can rely on, as it once did. Vera has been going through a pretty tough phase of his career, allowing him to collect just four wins in his last 10 bouts.
Therefore, Vera is repeatedly claiming that the bout with Rua and the chance to become number one contender is a bonus for him along with his comeback scenario.
Vera commented, “I’m just worried about Shogun. I’m not worried about the after. Everything else is a bonus. It’s a nice bonus, but we’ll get there when we get there.”
The Californian proud, who holds a notable win over two-time world champion Frank Mir, commented that he is amidst a mixture of emotions. He finds himself happy, nervous and excited, all at the same time.
Brandon, while sharing his thoughts, commented, “Not many people get a shot like this. I’m excited, glad, happy, nervous, scared and hungry – all at the same time.”
Unfortunately, due to his recent dismal performances, Vera does not have much votes in his favour, still there are some people who denote his iron chin and tendency to absorb much pain as a decisive factor.
If Brandon is able to absorb Rua’s onslaught there is a slight chance that he can win the bout via close unanimous decision otherwise Shogun will obliterate him easily.
