Brandon Webb eases up on getting ready for the new season – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers had some good news to deliver in Arizona, as their new pitcher Brandon Webb is making a slow come-back to match fitness and is doing well. Given that Webb has been out Major League Baseball action, manager Ron Washington was able to talk
about the player after a live bull-pen session.
Washington said, "Some good, some not so good. That's to be expected. He couldn't find any consistency. The more he throws, the more he'll find that consistency. He did show sink and that's his game. But I don't think the sinker he had out there today will
be the sinker he will have when his arm is ready.”
Webb now appears to be doing better than the time he came to play from free agency to the Rangers. The pitcher has worked up his strength in his throwing arm, but now the important checkpoints he needs to clear. These deal with his skill, technique, mechanism
and mindset. The ball thrower has the hard task to work on his curve-balls, change-ups and fast-balls.
The long toss program has ended well for Webb, but now the focus goes onto his live pitching session in the bull-pen against real hitters. In all of Spring Training, today marked the first day Webb went up against hitters in the cage.
"I thought everything went pretty well today," Webb said. "I was more in the strike zone.... I figured once we got hitters in there, that would straighten me out. I felt good. I have been a little inconsistent in the pen, but I was a little better today.
It wasn't the best I've thrown, but it wasn't the worst either."
With the 2011 Major League Baseball season right around the corner, there are serious issues to deal with, as players from all of teams are finding it very hard to contest in the year without proper practice. At the end of the day, the squad with the best
prepared players is the most likely to head into the post season play-offs.
