Brandon Webb fills the void at the Texas Rangers clubhouse
The Texas Rangers appear to be making progress in their pursuit for future glory. The side had gone through a lot to end 2010 on the highest peak of their history. The ball club had been at the verge of bankruptcy last season.
That was before Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan claimed the club in an auction bid. The team then went on to make history by winning the American League West title. That victory granted them to appear in the 2010’s playoffs. Unlike earlier opportunities, the
Rangers did their best to compete in this particular special event.
The club powered by the likes of Cliff Lee, Vladimir Guerrero and Josh Hamilton ousted the Tampa Bay Rays to make it to the American League Championship. They then faced a club they always took on in their playoff contentions,
the New York Yankees. The Rangers always lost their chance to succeed in the playoffs when they took on the Yanks before. However, in 2010, things were going to change.
Like their ownership, the Rangers’ fate spelled fortune as they brought down the Yanks easily to make their way to the World Series. They made history by going into the World Series for the first time. Unfortunately, they were
not going to clinch the title as the San Francisco Giants took them out of the game.
However, with the end of the title chase, the Rangers had a new task to deal with. They had to retain the services of Cliff Lee. Unfortunately, that issue fell out of favour as the pitcher chose to side with the Philadelphia Phillies
on a 5-year contract worth $120 million. With Lee out of the pitching rotation, it seems unlikely that anyone can give the club the kind of power needed to oust the top leagues in the American League.
However, that thought is not completely valid, as news has come of a new signing that will bring a lot of relief to the team. Two years of absence from Major League Baseball did not affect the Rangers decision to sign on Brandon
Webb. The once Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher is now part of the Texas clubhouse. Reports claim that the pitcher has penned a one-year deal.
The ball thrower played for the D-Backs back in 2008 and won 22 games during that season. Unfortunately, he lost his chance to make a difference in the following seasons as he was restricted by a shoulder injury. For 4 seasons
leading up to 2008, Brandon started 134 encounters and played in 927 innings. His Earning Runs Average was down at 3.23 and he carried a wins to loss ratio of 70–37.
