Brands/Krawietz, Marx/Zelenay win doubles matches – Eckental Challenger 2011
The men’s doubles first round matches of the 2011 Eckental Challenger continued on November 1, 2011. Daniel Brands (Germany) paired with compatriot Kevin Krawietz to play against Frank Dancevic (Canada) and Go Soeda (Japan). The
team of Brands/Krawietz won the match 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
In the first set, Brands/Krawietz scored four aces while their opponents delivered three. They were going head-to-head with Dancevic/Soeda as the two teams kept each other on the offensive.
Dancevic/Soeda saved all three of their breakpoints while their opponents could save only one of their two breakpoints. Dancevic/Soeda won the first set 6-3 with good teamwork that they showed from the start of the first set.
The German pair of Brands/Krawietz made their strong comeback in the second set. Dancevic/Soeda delivered eight aces in the second set while their opponents could only score three. As far as the double faults are concerned, Brands/Krawietz
conceded a single double fault while Dancevic/Soeda had two double faults.
Even with eight aces, Dancevic/Soeda could not win the second set for they were not able to break the serves of their opponents. They saved four out of their eight breakpoints and had a first serve winning ratio of 66%, which was
five percent higher than their opponents.
In the third set, the decider, both teams could not score an ace and neither conceded a double fault. With a score of 10-5, the Germans won the set and sealed their win in the match.
On November 1, 2011, another doubles match of the tournament featured Andreas Beck (Germany) pair up with Julian Knowles (Austria) to play against Philipp Marx (Germany) and Igor Zelenay (Slovakia). Marx/Zelenay won the match 7-6(4),
6-4.
The team of Marx/Zelenay was exceptional as they delivered fifteen aces in the entire match with three double faults. Their opponents, Beck/Knowle could only score three aces and conceded three double faults.
Marx/Zelenay was also able to save the only breakpoint they had while their opponents could only manage to save two out of their three breakpoints. Marx/Zelenay were also successful in gaining a higher first serve winning rate
with 69% as compared to their opponents, who could only secure 59%. In the first set, Marx/Zelenay scored six aces and had a 71% first serve winning ratio.
Their opponents could only secure a 56% first serve winning rate which was a clear indication that Beck/Knowle were not getting any benefit put of their service games. The first set, however, went into a tiebreaker, which Marx/Zelenay
won 7-6(4).
In the second set, Marx/Zelenay did not let their service games reach the breakpoint level while their opponents could save only two out of their three breakpoints.
With nine aces in the second set, Marx/Zelenay won the second set 6-4 and won the match to make their way into the next round of the men’s doubles competition in the 2011 Eckental Challenger.
