Brandt Snedeker aces on the second ball
Brandt Snedeker will be confident going into the Open Championship after he aced the second ball on a par-4. This is the second time in a major that an ace has been scored. Last time around, it was in the US Open when Alvaro Quiros aced on the seventh.
However, there is a big contrast in both of them as the aced scored by Alvaro was recorded on camera whereas the ace score by Snedeker was not recorded because there was no camera around.
Acing a hole always gives a good feeling but sadly there is no footage for Snedeker to keep it as a memory.
"There were not many people out there, about six people," Snedeker said. "By the time I got to my first ball to hit my wedge from the fairway, they were clapping by the green. I said, `What are you clapping for?' They said, `You made a hole-in-one.' I could
not believe it".
There were hardly any people who saw the ball going straight, Snedeker had no idea that he had aced it until he reached the green.
"I did not see it go in," he said. "They said it was nothing out of the ordinary, just rolled in the middle of the hole".
Snedeker had absolutely no intention of acing, he was just trying to get in line with the hole to make a perfect shot. There was a lucky guy nearby who watched the ball go in, Snedeker signed the ball and gave it to him.
"I was just trying to get a line where to hit driver," Snedeker said. While walking off the green, Snedeker addressed his caddie Scott Vail and said, "I think we got the line".
Such moments are long lasting in a player’s career, though there was no real time footage of the shot but the memories will always remain with Snedeker.
Going in to the tournament, Brandt Snedeker is ranked world number 29 and will be featuring in his fourth Open Championship. On all previous occasions, he has missed the cut but will look to improve on things this time around.
His best result at any major has been T3 at the Masters, back in 2008, after a successful year as a rookie.
