Brandt Snedeker makes a strong start at the Memorial Tournament
The United States’ Brandt Snedeker carded a three-under par 69 in the opening round of the Memorial Tournament, presented by Nationwide Insurance at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio to share the fourth spot on Thursday, May 31, 2012.
Snedeker started off on the back nine of the course and the first nine holes he played were full of ups and downs, as he recorded four birdies and three bogeys to go one-under par.
Thereafter, he managed to score another two birdies on the front nine of the course to finish three strokes behind the pace set by Scott Stallings at six-under par 66.
According to him, the course was really tough to play, and the wind factor was adding difficulty to it at some of the holes.
“Even though there's some low scores this afternoon, the wind was really swirling around a lot,” he said. “You'd have some holes where the wind would blow at you, do a 180-degree turn on you, by the time you get your tee shot and second shot. It was really
tough to pull a club and get something close”.
“But the greens were rolling so nice that if you did hit a green, you got a really good look at birdie,” he added. “The course isn't playing real long because it's so firm right now. So it's giving everybody -- everybody around here has a really good shot
at making a lot of birdies”.
He also told that his game off the tee was amazing except two times when he had to suffer bogeys in the end.
He said that accuracy can play a key role in scoring low in the upcoming rounds as the course is playing really fast.
Overall, Snedeker looked pleased with his performance and confident to go even low before entering the weekend.
Blake Adams, Andres Romero, Aaron Baddeley, Rory Sabbatini, Matt Every and Daniel Summerhays were the other players to join him on the leaderboard at the fourth spot.
Spencer Levin and Erik Compton were tied for the second position after firing a five-under par 67 each.
