Brandt Snedeker on the right track to defend RBC Heritage Golf Tournament title – Golf Feature
The United States’ Brandt Snedeker will return to the field of the RBC Heritage Golf Tournament at the Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island with an aim to defend his title from April 12 to 15, 2012.
The three-time PGA Tour winner had a great start to his 2012 campaign and registered a win in the Farmers Insurance Open in January, 2012.
The highlight of his win included his charge in the final round of the tournament to tie for the first place even after he had a seven-stroke deficit at the start of the round.
He carded a five-under par final round score against the overnight leader Kyle Stanley’s two-over par to force the game to enter the playoffs.
Snedeker won the event with a birdie on the first extra hole to lift the prestigious trophy for the first time in his career.
That marked an amazing start to his season and he has continued to perform well since then.
In total, he has played seven tournaments on the PGA Tour and has managed to record three top-10 finishes among them.
The last tournament that he played was Transitions Championship. He finished tied for the 29th position on the leaderboard.
After his impressive performances in the season, he has surged to the 22nd spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
While looking at his recent form and performances, several golf analysts believe that he has the ability to successfully defend his title at Harbour Town.
Moreover, his commitment to stage the tournament speaks of his confidence and hunger to repeat the history at the event.
In 2010, Verizon announced its withdrawal from the event as its title sponsor. Therefore, the event organisers had to stage the 2011 edition with the amount reserved with them.
However, the organisers were planning to call off the event from the PGA Tour schedule when Snedeker helped them find a sponsorship deal with the Royal Bank of Canada and the Boeing Co.
This confirmed his chance of defending his title on the PGA Tour this year. In turn, he will be feeling extra motivated while playing the tournament this year.
He will be the major reason for other players visiting the venue to compete against him. Otherwise, the Carolina State would have remained eventless in the 2012 golf season.
According to Snedeker, he is in a good shape to defend his title successfully.
The more interesting part of it will be the schedule of tournament being one week after the Masters Tournament.
Snedeker believes that playing against the best golfers from all over the world in the first major event of the year will certainly help him learn new things.
In addition to that, Heritage field will be comparatively easier than the Masters.
Therefore, if he succeeds in making a good at the Augusta National Golf Club, he can definitely astound his opponents in Harbour Town.
The only thing that he needs to work on is his consistency. Despite his good performances in the first quarter of the 2012 golf season, he was sometimes seen struggling with his playing technique, placing him in a lower position on the leaderboard.
He just needs to work on his short game and try to focus on his putting that can make a real difference in his position on the leaderboard.
