Brandt Snedeker’s selection as one of the Captain’s pick surprises Martin Kaymer
When Davis Love III announced his Ryder Cup team Tuesday, questions were raised by numerous people regarding Brandt Snedeker’s inclusion in the Ryder Cup team. Snedeker will be a rookie at Medinah Country Club, as he looks to kick start his Ryder Cup career.
There was one surprised doubter regarding his pick for the 2012 Ryder Cup team. The European Ryder Cup player, Martin Kaymer stated that he is absolutely surprised at Snedeker’s selection at the expense of Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler.
“It was a tough decision between Snedeker, Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler. You could have put those three names in a hat and pick any one of them. It's tough to say who deserved it more as Snedeker will be a rookie, but then Rickie and Hunter have the experience
of having played in 2010,” said the 2010 PGA Champion.
Kaymer believes that in competitions such as the Ryder Cup experience is what counts. To him Fowler had a decent chance as he impressed in Wales.
“So I thought Rickie would be a strong chance of getting a pick, but then (Jim) Furyk is a good pick because of his experience and he's a guy who has been there many, many times,” German said.
However, Love has selected his team on the basis of form and in regards to that he has made the best possible team.
It is interesting to see that Europeans are discussing USA Ryder Cup team selection in public. No such comments were passed by the Americans is it just a mind game or to pressurise the rookie (Snedeker), only time will tell.
Martin Kaymer is currently preparing for the KLM Open where he is paired with his Captain Jose Maria Olazabal and Nicolas Colsaerts.
Kaymer is currently chasing his first title of the year and this may be the best time to hit his peak form as the Ryder Cup gets under way in three weeks time.
His pairing is a lucky one, as he will be playing with his Ryder Cup team mates. Kaymer said that the Ryder Cup will be a topic of discussion for the three of them but, at the same time, everybody will be looking to clinch the title.
Europeans currently have the Ryder Cup trophy. They have won last four of five Ryder Cups. Americans look are looking to end the European dominance over the trophy.
