Chelsea's utility defender Branislav Ivanovic has extended his contract with the Blues, as the player has signed a fresh five-and-a-half-year deal with the club. As a result of this contract extension, the defender will now remain
at Chelsea until the summer of 2016.
The 26-year-old Serbian has been one of the regularly featured players at Stamford Bridge this season. Mostly, because he can play both as a centre-back and a right-back. This ability of the player has seen him make 99 appearances
for the team, after having arrived at the club in 2008.
After having completed the extension of his contract with the team, Ivanovic is reported to have said, "It is good news for me, it is a very big step for me in my career and I want to give my maximum and try to help Chelsea win
a lot more trophies.”
"These things take a little time but my first vision was always to stay with Chelsea, there were not a lot of problems because I wanted to stay, the club wanted me to stay and I want to thank everyone who helped with the deal,
I am very happy with that."
The player's contract extension has come in at a rather dark time for the Blues. This is because Chelsea are currently on the back of a defeat to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the Premier League and are seemingly out of the title race. However,
this act by their Serbian defender is sure to boost the team’s morale to a certain extent.
Ivanovic seemed to have grown frustrated with the team over the course of the last few months and this was quite apparent in his last outing for the club. During the game against Liverpool, Ivanovic was constantly caught tangling
with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Petr-Cech-c29837 and the two were on the verge of snapping at each other. Nonetheless, it seems like the player has put all his misunderstandings behind him and is willing to stay with the team that made him a household name in the Premier League.
With the addition of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Luiz-c10542 to the side and with Ivanovic extending his contract at the club, it now seems like Jose Bosingwa might soon be on his way out of the club. The Portuguese full-back has found it hard to adjust to
life in the Premier League and has even had some injury concerns with the team. As a result, it was rumoured that he would be parting ways with the team soon.
