Okay I play the marching baritone and when ever in band we take out our mouthpieces to buzz... I can't. All I get is either none, a short buzz, air, or in between. I need help also on buzzing notes, like I can't buzz so or me or whatever on my mouthpiece! I really need the help on learning how to do this.... I've been in band for almost four years now and I still can't do this.....

  1. First, buzzing just on the mouthpiece is a waste of time exercise.  They say it is good for developing tone. It does not help that at all and there are many professional brass players that would back me up on this.  Now that I got that out of the way--  Many people have the same problem.  A lot of the time it has to do with there being a lack of resistance.  Place your fingers at the end of the shank of the mouthpiece so that your fingers drape over the end a little. This should give you enough resistance.  Make sure you use lots of air, and keep your embouchure firm (think of having the corners of your mouth turned down slightly).  I hope this helps.  Good luck.
