Brass Tax is the leading contender for this race. The 6-year-old gelding has yet to compete in 2012, and this will be his first chance this year to show his strength and capability.
The son of Morozov, out of Cry Before Dawn, finished 4th in his last race at Cheltenham, in the Grade 2 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle, which was held on 10th December, 2011.
His trainer, Ben Case, is hopeful that he will be all set to exceed expectations in this race.
Fiulin is the joint favourite, and is attracting bets. He has the opportunity of going head to head against Brass Tax.
Trained by David Pipe, this will be the 7-year-old’s first race since 18th March, 2011, which he failed to complete because of his injury at Cheltenham, in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.
Kilcaskin Star, trained by Karen Tutty, will be competing in his third race in 2012.
The son of Zagreb, out of Kentucky Key, finished 4th in the Tunstall Standard National Hunt Flat Race, which was held on 12th January, 2012, at Catterick.
Theology has the potential to do better in this race. In the previous race, he made a mistake at the hurdles, but his trainer, Steve Gollings is hopeful that the 5-year-old will be able to overcome this challenge.
The son of Galileo, out of Biographie Mtoto finished 11th in the Yorkshire Radio Supporting Yorkshire Racing Novices’ Hurdle on 11th January, 2012, at Doncaster.
Racing after a break of two years, Robbie will also be competing in this race. The 8-year-old’s last race was on 7th February, 2010, at Musselburgh, in the Racing UK Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race.
According to the betting forecast, Brass Tax and Fiulin have the same odds of winning which are calculated as 2 to 1. They are joint favourites, and will entertain the crowd, vying for the top spot.
The second place is likely to be secured by Theology, and if this is how the race turns out, the third place will probably be awarded to Robbie.
