  1. Here's a good recipe for cleaning brass

one half lemon or 4 drop of any essential citrus oil

    2 teaspoons of salt

    1 cup of vinegar

    all purpose flour

mix everything together add enough flour to make a paste

smear the mixture on the piece let dry completely

    then rinse in warm water

dry and polish with a lint free cloth

  2. That is the copper showing through, you need to get some Brasso and do it right before you ruin it. It may be too late, vinegar is an acid and it may have eaten away the tin.

  3. Vinegar and salt work great for stainless steel...But brass is a gray area...There's copper there and vinegar may by too acidic for that particular brass...

Please try this very simple trick...toothpaste !

The toothpase will probably do a very good job but now you need to protect the brass...You need to coat it with something...A very slight residue of vaseline will keep it from tarnishing any further.. :-)
