  1. In general, about the same, since they cover about the same range.

To be specific, strengths of both vary widely, you need to compare strengths from the spec sheets on the particular alloys and heat treatments you plan to use.  Both have commonly available alloys that go to about 600MPa (90 ksi) ultimate tensile strength.

Most non-engineered applications don't require a lot of strength, and either will probably do fine.

  2. I think you need to explain more about type of strength , is it a tensile strength, compression strength, yield stress, abrasive resistance , stc, because some are favoring brass and some favoring aluminum.

  3. Which specific alloys?, 7075-T651 Aluminum makes most brass alloys look like silly-putty. Need more info...

  4. Commercially pure aluminum has a tensile strength of approximately 90MPa and can be improved to around 180MPa by cold working. Typical Brass alloys have tensile strengths in the range 250 - 500MPa. There maybe different brass materials which exceed this limit. There may be those which are lower in tensile strength than the minimum of this range. Check in the web. But, according to these data, you can see that Brass is stronger than Aluminum. So, the brass plate is stronger than the Al plate. However, Aluminum is a pure metal. Brass is an alloy. So, there maybe different brasses depending on their composition.
