Brawn not ready to welcome thirteenth team in Formula One
Over the years Formula One has witnessed numerous changes, many of the rules and regulations have changed, a lot has been done and undone in the past decades to make the sport as exciting and fair as possible. However, all the changes are not equally acceptable by everyone, some are welcomed immensely and some have caused a lot of controversies and arguments. Well, good or bad, reactions are inevitable whenever there is a change.
Now, the hot news around the sport is the addition of a thirteenth team that FIA is planning to introduce for the upcoming season. So far most of the teams have not expressed much approval for FIA’s decision.
One of the men, who has very openly criticised plans to add another team, is the Mercedes GP Team Principal Ross Brawn. He suggested that there is no need for the thirteenth team on the 2011 grid.
FIA re-opened the process of application earlier during the month of March this year inviting all teams that are looking forward to entering. However, Brawn is convinced that another team in the Formula One squad is completely unnecessary.
He explained his opinion saying that the current grid is perfectly designed and that there is no need to make unnecessary changes in it now.
Currently twelve teams participate in one season which means twenty-four cars run in a race on the grid, which Brawn thinks is a “pretty good” size.
He further added that it is more important to keep the current teams in the sport happy rather than introducing new teams, as that would only disturb the current sporting tactics. "I don't think it would be a disaster if a 13th team didn't come in”, commented Brawn.
While talking about the upcoming season and how he sees it he added, “I'm sure the smaller teams at the back of the grid are going to close the gap next year with their second car”.
Brawn is confident that the old teams would be much more polished in the forthcoming season. While the new teams of this season would have grown more competitive next year. Keeping in mind the current situation, of the technological advancements that are being made this year, he exclaimed with joy that, "I think we'll have an interesting grid next year with the teams we already have".
As per other speculations around, the analysts believe that if another team would be brought it could be one of these candidates, Stefan GP or Epsilon Euskadi. There is a probability of seeing a tie-up between the Jacques Villeneuve and Durango with GP2 team ART and the American Cypher Group.
Well, at a time when everybody is coming up with their opinion about the FIA’s new move, it is silently working in viewing all the applicants closely. Before the final decision is made which is thought to be announced by the end of August.
Currently, many of the teams are struggling to keep their place in the Formula One calendar. Brawn proclaims that any team that would be entering the grid will find it extremely tough to be competitive owing to the current situation of the teams as well as the cars and the drivers.
"I'd suggest it's getting pretty tight now," he further announced, "We've started our car for next year. Obviously the amount of effort and resource we put in is front line”.
Well, it is only a couple of weeks to go till all the race lovers as well as the teams would get to know the next team of the Formula One caravan.
