Hello people,

I am now 29 weeks pregnant and my braxton hicks contractions have become more pronounced. Sometimes they last for about a minute. Sometimes they last for 10 minutes. Is this normal for the length of time to fluctuate so much? Have any of you had braxton hicks that lasted quite that long?

  1. Mine usually last 30 seconds-90 seconds.  If they get closer together, and you have them after an hour call the hospital.

  2. Hi I'm not quite 30 weeks and have been having braxton hicks since about 20 weeks continuously.

The whole rule of 'no more than 4 an hour' is bollocks!  I can sometimes go a few hours with none but I seem to have them on and off all day.  Most of the time they aren't painful but I do get period like cramps with them.  I have spoken to my midwife and she's not concerned about them at all.  Sometimes mine will last what seems like 10 mins but I wonder if maybe i have 2 during this time?  Sometimes I get almost a patten with them (6-7 mins apart) and then they stop.

Also, i'm pretty positive i'm not dehydrated either and laying on my side doesn't help because I get them MORE when i'm in bed.  The period cramps are probably more from over exertion.

If you are really concerned i'd speak with your midwife/OBgyn and they will be able to put your mind at ease.

  3. i had braxton hicks contractions and i was having mines for a couple of weeks

  4. braxton hicks is normal however if they become really intolerable or they are coming in a pattern you need to go to the doctor to get checked.
