Braylon Edwards charged with DWI
New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested early Tuesday morning on charges of driving while intoxicated.

Edwards was pulled over on the west side of Manhatten at around 5:15 a.m. when police officers noted that the windows of his SUV were too tinted.

The officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol, according to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne, and administered a breath test at the scene.  Edwards blood alcohol level was .16, double the legal limit.  There were four other people in the SUV at the time.

This is not Edwards' first brush with the law.  He was placed on probation last January after pleading no contest to misdemeanor aggravated disorderly conduct in Cleveland, after punching a man outside a nightclub.

Edwards' lawyer, Peter M. Frankel, had no comment as he awaited the player's arraignment.  A call put in to Edwards' agent was not returned.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum voiced his disappointment in Edwards.

"We are very disappointed in Braylon's actions this morning," Tannenbaum said in a statement released by the team. "We are reviewing the information with the league and will impose the appropriate disciplinary measures."

Tannenbaum also noted the Jets have a special program in which a player who drinks can call for a driver to take him home.

The NFL has yet to comment on the incident, but Edwards could be in line for a suspension for violations of NFL policies on alcohol and player-conduct policy.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has cracked down in recent years on behaviour which casts the NFL in a negative light.

The Jets will be hoping to have Edwards in the lineup after a strong performance in a week two win over the New England Patriots.  Edwards caught five passes, one for a touchdown, and also caught a two-point conversion.
