Brazil, Argentina, and Colombia clinch success on day 1 of CSV Men’s Volleyball Championship
The 2011 CSV Men’s South American Volleyball Championship started off in Brazil on Monday, September. On the opening day of the tournament, Argentina displayed stellar performance and worked out straight set win over Chile in the
first encounter. The next thriller brought Uruguayan team in competition with host Brazil. The guest team failed to put up with the hard-hitting of hosts and accepted defeat in three sets. The last match of day 01 saw Colombia seizing 3-2 smashing win over
Venezuela. All three matches were packed up with extreme volleyball action and provided a whole lot of entertainment to the spectators.
Match 1
Argentina 3, Chile 0

Argentina was generally regarded as better team in the match. They started out well and tried to put some early pressure on Chilean team. They secured opening set with a fair margin of 8 points, 25-17. Chile gave a good competition to Argentineans in the following
set and made it quite difficult for them to extend their lead. However, Argentina proved to better and posted 25-21 on board. The disparity of two teams became apparent in third set as Argentina close off with 25-16 and declared its winning status.
The Head Coach of Argentina, Javier Weber, commented: “Argentina’s slow start could have been detrimental to the score. In the first two sets we did not play good volleyball and we took time to find our game. Chile also played well. We need to play better
during the championship”.
Match 2
Brazil 3, Uruguay 0
The defending champion Brazil edged out Uruguay by sending 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, and 25-14) on board. Most essentially, it was a one-sided affair as Brazil had no difficulty in dominating underdog Uruguay. Brazil was equipped with all necessary tools to win
the match. On top of it, the home support and advantage of familiar conditions also favoured Brazil. Thiago Alves was the top-scorer in match with 16 points. Brazil will now take on bigger rivals from Venezuela in the next match.
Match 3

Colombia 3, Venezuela 2
The Colombian national team trounced stronger competitor Venezuela in a tiring five-set match. They claimed the historic victory by posting 25-17, 25-27, 17-25, 28-26, and 15-10. After the dead-lock of 2-2, the 15-point golden set was full tension. Nevertheless,
Colombian players displayed great effort and cashed the final set.

Colombia coach Horácio Dielo was more than happy about electrifying performance of his team. He expressed his emotions in the following manner: “It is the first time that we beat Venezuela. It was exciting. The two teams had ups and downs but we were able to
stay calm at the end of the game. I am proud of my team”.
The South American teams are fighting for ticket to the 2011 FIVB Men’s World Cup in Japan, which is set to take place from November 20 to December 4, where three top ranked teams will qualify for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
