Brazil: Can anybody tell me something about Buzios in Brazil?

Is it nice? What to do? Summer sports or nightlife good too?

Good Hotels? Any g*y related places?

I´m thinking about going but my vacation is in september, not sure if its the best time since its not summer?

Summer and winter are switched from that in the US< Brazil is below the equator.

    Buzios WAS and old fishing villiage, it is becoming more of a rich tourist resort. It is beautiful, but not rediculously touristy yet. So if you are going to go, go NOW! a few years ago some overly wealthy  european bought a house there for over a million dollars. I was there in 2000 and twenty thousand american dollars could have bought the best house there. Now the real estate has gone crazy, and people are flocking to it. To bad, it was a real nice, balanced vacation spot.

In general, Buzios is like the Brazilian version of Carmel, California.  In other words, it's an upscale tourist town with lots of shops, restaurants and hotels.  Many of these are more expensive than what you'd find in a typical/average Brazilian town.  As mentioned by someone else, Buzios tends to cater to a wealthier clientèle.

Personally, I think Buzios is amazing.  I love it!  It is amazingly beautiful (the downtown area and the many beaches that can be reached by rental buggy).  The ocean views are also spectacular.  Apparently there IS a nightlife... but I am thinking it may only be on weekends and maybe only in the summer (December - February).  When I was there it was mid-week in December and the evenings were moderately quiet.  Yes, there were bars and restaurants open... but no big parties.

I'm unaware of any g*y-related places in Buzios.

There is windsurfing available.  I think there are 2- 3 places that you can arrange this with.  I also saw people being towed behind a boat (on an inflatable "banana").  But, it kept tipping over.  A little spooky if you ask me.

You can go on boat rides w/ groups of people to various secluded beaches.  Or, rent a water taxi for 15 minutes and just get a quick tour of the bay in front of downtown.

You can rent buggies and drive around Buzios.  There are many beaches to drive to, explore, etc.

September will be cooler than the summer.  But, still maybe 70 or so I think.

There are many good hotels (pousadas).  My favorite is Casas Brancas.  It seems to have the reputation of catering to the elite more than any other hotel in Buzios.  You can choose a garden room for a cheaper option.  The views from the hotel (and the other nearby hotels) are awesome.

I'll be visiting Buzios again in the future.  But, also checking out Parati, which is about 2 - 3 hours South of Rio.  It's not quite as upscale or populated as Buzios.  But, both are definitely slower paced than Rio!

Buzios, or Armação de Buzios, is an old fisherman´s village, about 2:30 hours north of Rio by car. It became fashionable in the 70´s and 80´s after Brigite Bardot went there a few times (first time in 64). From then until today its only growing and growing.

It´s a peninsula with some 20 beaches, on one side warmer water, on the other colder, that has some 350 small hotels, inns (Pousadas), lots of restaurants and a lots of clubs, bars etc.

The downtown area, which focus on Rua das pedras, has people drinking and partying all night, usualy until 4/5 am, even out of season.

Lots of water related sports, windsurf, kite, surfing, sailing in general. Also hiking.

There´s a very small nude beach called Olho de boi (Oxe´s eye) on the tip of the penninsula, but its quite a hike to get there.

Sea food is amazing, actualy restaurants are pretty good.

You can find accomodations from USD 20,00 a night all the way up, on the fancy resorts.

Lots of artists have chosen Buzios to live as well.

I recomend a medium priced Inn called Abracadabra, has an amazing view, service was great, suppose it still is and was a 10min walk from downtown area.

I think its a very g*y friendly place, im sure there are g*y clubs.

I would avoid going on major holidays like New Years and Carnival (Mardi Gras, usualy around February).

September seems great cause the actual summer down here is VERY hot.

Also, there´s little chapel from the 17th century or so, close to the Ossos Beach (Bones Beach, aparently the cemetery was around there... I suppose)

I can't tell you much about Buzios, but I do recommend the full Brazilian wax.  It's nice.
