Brazil Trip?

Question

Hello, all! I am going to be traveling to Brazil for the first time and am considering covering three states: Bahia, Salvador, Pernanmbuco, Recife and Minas Gerais , Belo Horizonte, Ouro Preto. I do not have very much time and was wondering if you all could give some advice. Do you think its best to focus just on the North East and skip Belo Horizonte. I know each state is quite different, and I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give about the cities, sites, etc. Cheers!

go to the Fernando de Noronha Island!!! it the most wonderful place in Brasil, it is on the Northeastern litoral. It is absolutely gorgeous!!

I would definitely spend more time in the North-East. It's beautiful!

Belo Horizonte is just a big city, and it's got lots of historic buildings but then again you will see lots of historic buildings in the North Eastern coastal cities as well.

Indeed, the three states are very close.

You can go first to Belo Horizonte and Ouro Preto - Minas Gerais.

Ouro Preto is known as Heritage of Humanity by its history and architecture. There are beautiful churches in the Baroque style.

Then you can go to Salvador, Bahia, the airfare costs between $ 287.0 to 380.0.

From Salvador to Recife - Pernambuco, the airfare costs more or less $ 380.0.

In Minas Gerais, you will have the opportunity to hear a little of the people simplest and most picturesque places of Brazil . If only stay in the Northeast will see only beaches.

Make sure you take some time to visit Bahia if you are more into relaxation and the beach scene. I myself am from Salvador and you will be able to take various tours of islands and beaches if you ask locals around the area. I also recommend Rio de Janeiro (the beach sections) Plenty of beautiful scenery if you are into photography and want plenty of snap shots to show the folks back home. Oh and if you do choose to go to Salvador make sure you try some of our wonderful cuisine. Feijoada, Moqueca, and Churrasco are three names you'll want to remember to ask about. They are my personal favorites.

I think you should begin by the North East, at the coast, and go until Rio de Janeiro, after you skip into the countryside, Belo Horizonte.

It all depends how long you will be travelling. Brasil is a huge country like the USA and travelling between states are not easy and not cheap. You can either drive, take bus (no train in most of inter states) or fly.

In any case I am very surprised you didn't mention Rio de Janeiro which is to me the first city a foreigner must go. Not seeing Rio is not "fully" knowing typical Brasil. So I highly recommend you to visit RJ at least for 3 days. It is not safe but many toruists have been there and safe.

Bahia, Salvador is a must too! It is a beautiful city with many things to do and places to visit specially the historic area of Pelorinho. Also in Bahia if you have time, visit Morro de Sao Paulo which is to be one of the top destinations of Brazil (check on google earth to learn more).

Recife is definitely worth going and Pernambuco too. Beuaitful beaches, white sands, etc... Also you didn't mention but Lencois Maranhenses is one of the most beautiful places in Brasil which is located on the Nortern part of brazil. Look at these photos:

Not sure about Minas Gerais, if you have time you should go, but in my opinion is the last place you should consider. No beaches, very small towns interesting but not as interings as many other areas Brasil has.

Belo Horizonte is just a big city like Sao Paulo, if you have time go, otherwise you rather spend time in Sao paulo which has more to offer than BH.

Friend, I live in Rio and work in the Northeast and am in Belo at least once every two months.  You are certainly going to places that are not the most touristy.  Your are choices are good though.  I don;t know what your objectives are.

I would skip Belo for sure, however to see Ouro Preto which is fantastic you will have to fly into Belo.  Also I recommend Salvador but Recife is not my recommendation unless you will be staying at some sort of resort there.  I do have a suggestion though.  If you are flying in from the USA most lightly you will be coming through Rio or São Paulo (there are exceptions if you fly in on TAM).  If you do have a choice to come in through Rio, spend a day here.  Why?  because it is beautiful, it has as much or more history than Salvador and it is the point of connection with anyone who you will ask you about Brazil in your conversations once you get back.

can skip belo. is very dirty and has many weird people. go to the south, it is more pretty and clean. curitiba is the best... but then again we all have pride in our own city so i'm sure someone would say belo is the best. But you know, when you in brasil is very cheap to get a bus ticket. so can go almost anywhere for not much money.

The North East of the Country is just wonderful and you have to see Rio. Spend some good time in this beautiful breath-taking city, you'll fall in love with it. And then please don't loose the chance to see Ouro Preto, spend two days in this cute little city....it is so charming.
