Brazil and Argentina prepare for the 2011 FIVB World League
The 2011 FIVB World League is scheduled to start in the upcoming week. The first whistle of the referee will start things off on May 27 and the national teams of the 16 countries of the world will hit the spot.
Brazil are defending the title and also eyeing their third consecutive gold medal at the FIVB World League. Brazil have the most number of titles in the history of the FIVB World League.
The team is undergoing intense training to get ready for the big competition ahead. They are playing friendly matches with different teams.
Recently, Brazil completed a friendly tournament with the Netherlands. In the next run, they are scheduled to host three matches at home soil. This time, Argentina will collide with the Brazilian team. According to the schedule, a total of three matches
will be played. This would be the last encounter between the two sides before the start of the 2011 FIVB World League.
Brazil recently played a six-match friendly tournament with the Dutch team. The defending champions made a clean sweep and totally launched their authority over the opponents. Although the absolute success against Netherlands boosted the Brazilian team’s
moral, the head coach Percy Oncken is not merely living under any illusion of supremacy.
He stated, “The clash with Argentina will be different from the duels against the Netherlands. In planning for the World Championship we seek to play a lot of matches with schools in different patterns. Argentina is a tough opponent who has had great results
in the youth section and the fixture still has all the rivalry between the two countries.”
The first match is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 19 at 15:00 local time, while the next two matches will be played on Friday and Saturday. The city of Blumenau will host the thrilling action. Brazilian team is in excellent form throughout this
season. They have not lost a single match, which pretty much makes them the best team in the world.
Generally, the two teams have been placed in the different pools. Brazil will open the 2011 FIVB World League in Pool A along with teams from Poland, United States and Puerto Rico.
On the other hand, Argentina will play under the tag Pool C team. Argentina will be challenged by Serbia, Finland and Portugal in preliminary robin round. Both teams have big plans for the fast approaching World League competition. The friendly matches will
set a tone for both sides, to perform better in their respective pools.
