Brazil and Puerto Rico to compete in Boys’ Youth (Under-19) Pan American Cup final - Volleyball
The final of the Boys’ Youth (Under-19) Pan American Cup will take place between Puerto Rico and Brazil in Mexicali, Mexico shortly today, July 16.
Both teams have been going strong throughout the tournament and the championship match is expected to be an exciting event. The Gold Medal final will take place two hours after the Bronze Medal final.
The Puerto Ricans defeated the host team of Mexico in five long and grueling sets to make their place in the Finals. Playing against the raised odds of being in the rival’s home court, the Puerto Ricans put up a commendable performance as they sealed the
deal at the following points: 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-25, 15-13.
Puerto Rico lost the first set of the match by a significant margin but as the Puerto Ricans adjusted themselves to the loud cheers of the Mexican crowd, they were able to step up their game in the second set of the match. The improved performance of the
Puerto Rican squad enabled them to win the second set. Propelled by the confidence generated by winning the second set, the Puerto Ricans put up a solid performance in the third and earned themselves another win. The Mexicans equalised by bagging the fourth
set but the decisive fifth set was taken by the Puerto Ricans.
On the other hand, the Brazilians did a relatively quick job of defeating the U.S. squad by 3-0. The Americans let the opening set of the match slip by as the Brazilians secured a comfortable win at 25-19. However, the U.S. squad was able to step up its
game in the second set and challenge their rivals. Despite the fact that the second set was close, the Brazilians were able to score the final point and take the set at 25-23. After having won the first two sets of the game, the Brazilians played the third
one with confidence and did not rest until they had it at 25-21.
Whether Brazil will be able to secure another win by defeating Puerto Rico still remains to be seen.
