Brazil bags more gold on 5th day of the swimming contest – Parapan American Games 2011
On the fifth day of the Swimming contest there were only seven medal events but they still managed to yield world records and it was yet another Brazilian success at the 2011 Parapan American Games which are being held in the Scotiabank
Aquatics Centre, Guadalajara, Mexico.
Cuba’s Lorenzo Perez (1:09.42) accomplished the first gold medal of the day in the men’s 100 meter Freestyle S6 which was also his third gold medal. His teammate Rafael Castillo (1:11.69) took the silver, while bronze went to Brazil’s
Adriano de Lima (1:12.72), who is also former America’s record.
In the second race of the day, the host nation saw a clean sweep of the medals in the women’s 100 meter Freestyle S6 by Doramitzi Gonzalez (1:23.54), who also won her second gold of the Games in a Games record time. She was just
ahead of teammates Vianney Trejo (1:25.04) and Karina Domingo Bello (1:29.25) who bagged the silver and bronze respectively.
Mexico continued their superior form as they entered into the men’s 200 meter Individual Medley SM8. For the hosts Luis Andrade Guillen (2:38.86) took gold in a Games record. Mean while, Brazilian pair of Caio Oliveira (2:44.69)
and William Sanatana (2:53.25) took the silver and the bronze respectively.
Sixth time gold winner, Daniel Dias (32.80) claimed an extraordinary Games record in the men’s 50 meter Freestyle S5. It was a clean cut victory for Brazil with teammates Clodoaldo Silva (35.45) taking silver and Francisco Avelino
(43.98) the bronze.
Yet another gold medal was bagged by Brazil in the women’s 50 meter Freestyle S5. Joana Silva (39.42) claimed her second gold of the Games ahead of American Alyssa Gialamas (47.89) and Mexico’s Nely Miranda Herrera (50.01).
In the men’s 200 meter Individual Medley SM9 Brazil clogged a third gold medal. Matteus Silva (2:41.23) had a thrilling race that saw him edge past Argentina’s Juan Rosatti (2:41.63), who went on to conquering the second place
on the podium. The bronze was taken by Rosatti’s teammate, Argentinean Facundo Lazo (2:49.33).
The closing event of the day was the men’s 4x50 meter Medley Relay and Brazil did it again; they were just ahead of Argentina (3:21.88).
