Brazil beats Italy in FIVB World Grand Prix match
The Brazilian as well as the Italian sides competed each other in a FIVB World Grand Prix that took place on the 14th August in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The match went on for four sets at the end of which Brazil were celebrating a victory while the Italians were heading out of the courts with heads hung low.
The first set of the match went tight but the Brazilians were able to send home the final ball that got them the win. Like the first set of the game, the second set was intense as well but this time the Italians equalised the match by sealing a win. The
third set saw the Italians slacken a bit as the Brazilians took the third set by a comfortable margin while the fourth set also took similar tones and went in favour of the Brazilians that won the match at the following final set scores: 25-23, 24-26, 25-18
and 25-18.
The coach of the Brazilian team, Jose Roberto Lages Guimaraes, expressed his sentiments in the following words at the press conference after the match, “It was a good and tough match. We did a good job in service and we scored 15 points in blocks. It was
difficult to play against Italy.”
While the Italian coach, Barbolini Massimo, said, “My congratulations for Brazil. It was good volleyball. We were good in blocks and defense but made mistakes in receptions and attacks.”
The Brazilians were able to take the lead at the start of the first set at 6-3. The Italian coach tried to break the momentum of the Brazilians by asking for a time out and the strategy worked as Italy was able to tie the score at 8-8 afterwards. The Brazilians
went ahead again but the Italians were able to make the match reach another tie at 21-21 but Brazil prevailed in bagging the opening set of the game at 25-23.
It was Italy that had the lead at the start of the second set but the Brazilians did not let their rivals get too far and equalised the score at 10-10. The Italians were still leading at 22-18 and that propelled them to move towards a win at 26-24.
The beginning of the first set was close but the Italians eventually gave way to the Brazilians who sailed towards a set win at 25-18. The fourth set of the match unfolded in much the same way as the previous one as the Brazilians went in for the kill without
much resistance and bagged the final set at 25-18.
The player that was able to tally the most score on either team was the Brazilain Pequeno who registered 15 points while the Italian Steinbrecher posted 14 points for her team.
