Brazil beats Mexico 3-0 in second match of London Volleyball Invitational
The Brazilian men’s national volleyball team had a match against their Mexican rivals on Thursday, July 21, at Earls Court, London. The match was a part of the London Volleyball Invitational that is currently being staged as a test event for the London 2012
Olympic Games.
The match that followed the clash between the two teams did not last longer than one hour and eleven minutes in which the Brazilian side was able to make a clean sweep over the Mexicans. Not only did the Brazilians defeat the Mexicans in three back to back
sets, they earned themselves a win by smothering their opponents in each set of the game. By the time that the Brazilians had finished, the final set scores stood at: 25-15, 25-16 and 25-14.
The Mexican side was outmatched by the Brazilian squad in the entire match and it showed as soon as the first set of the game commenced. The Brazilians were able to take the lead early on and kept extending the advantage until the end of the game. The Brazilian
players that played an integral part in bagging the first set for his team was Luiz Felipe Fonteles, who made it look like it was a one man show. Fonteles was able to rain down six spikes on the Mexicans as well as a service ace. The flawless blocking skills
of Eder Carbonera made it excessively difficult for Mexico to score points.
Having lost the opening set of the game did not do any good to rejuvenate the Mexican side that kept on making errors in the second set. The low morale of the Mexicans helped the Brazilians to follow the same pattern as they had in the first set of the game.
This time around, it was Thiago Alves that was able to help the Brazilian side keep the pressure on the Mexicans by making two spikes, a block and an ace.
Starting the third set of the game after bagging the first two got the best out of the Brazilian squad while it seemed as if the Mexican side was waiting for a miracle. No help came and the Brazilian squad once again won the set and the match easily.
The Brazilian squad has been able to improve their tournament record to show a total of two wins and has yet to lose a set in the invitational. The next match that the Brazilian team is going to play is against the home team of England that is ranked number
94th in the world. On the other hand, the Mexican side has been unable to tally a win up to this point, having lost to England in their first match. Mexico is lined up to play against the U.S. squad next.
